Fall Baseball & the Value of Multi-Sport Athletes
At Raptors Athletics, we strongly believe in multi-sport athletic development rather than early single-sport specialization. This philosophy is one of the reasons we offer opportunities for athletes to participate in eight different sports throughout the year.

We encourage all families to read the following article from the National Federation of State High School Associations:
https://nfhs.org/stories/promoting-the-benefits-of-multi-sport-participation-in-high-schools
The evidence supporting multi-sport participation is compelling:
- In 2022, 1,250 players appeared on MLB Opening Day rosters. Of the 975 American-born players, 810 (83%) participated in multiple sports during high school.
- In the 2022 NFL Draft, 233 of the 262 players selected (89%) were multi-sport athletes, and nearly 45% played three or more sports in high school.
As a further example of the that High School coaches want multi-sport athletes, take a moment to watch and listen to Coach Jeff Earles of Texas state champion Magnolia West High School. Coach Earles explains that athletes who participate in multiple sports arrive at baseball season fresher physically and less worn down by year-round specialization. Just as importantly, stepping away from baseball to compete in another sport often renews their enthusiasm for the game. That time away creates anticipation, and when baseball season returns, players are eager to get back on the field and compete.
As youth sports continue to trend toward early specialization, it is important to remember that the highest levels of athletic achievement are often reached by athletes who develop through multiple sports. Multi-sport participation not only supports long-term athletic development, but also helps reduce burnout and over use injuries and promotes a greater overall enjoyment of sports.
I have personally spoken with more than 15 high school coaches across a variety of sports—including baseball, football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics—from schools throughout our area (Douglas County, Castle View, Rock Canyon, and Ponderosa).
The one thing they unanimously agree on is that they would rather have multi-sport athletes playing for them than athletes who specialized in a single sport before entering high school.
I can also point to the experience of my own 14U Raptors team from 2025. Ten of our 11 players just finished their freshman year of high school. Of those 11 players, one lettered in varsity hockey while also playing JV baseball at Castle View. Another lettered in varsity baseball after playing JV basketball at Douglas County. One athlete stepped away from baseball to continue excelling in cross-country running. Only one athlete did not participate in high school baseball, and that was simply because he was still in 8th grade.
The remaining seven players also participated in football, soccer, basketball, motocross racing or wrestling during the baseball off-season. Every single one of them are multisport athletes.
The takeaway is simple: one of Raptors' most successful teams in recent years was filled with multi-sport athletes. Nine of those 11 players went on to play high school baseball, with four playing at the JV level or higher as freshmen.
This team first came together at the 11U level and only participated in fall baseball once. We chose not to continue because, as coaches, we saw greater long-term benefits from having the boys participate in other sports. Those experiences helped them develop into more complete athletes and ultimately made them better baseball players.
Multi-sport athletes also gain valuable perspective by experiencing different roles on different teams. A player who is a star in one sport may be a role player in another, helping them develop humility, leadership, and a stronger understanding of what it means to be a great teammate.
Some of the many benefits of multi-sport participation include:
- A broader and more complete athletic skill set
- Reduced injury risk through varied physical demands
- Improved adaptability and problem-solving
- Enhanced leadership and teamwork skills
- Greater long-term enjoyment of athletics
That said, we understand that many players had a fantastic spring season and are eager to continue playing baseball this fall.
Unfortunately, Raptors Baseball does not offer a fall baseball program due to the loss of our field permits in early July, making it impossible to operate a fall league or provide practice fields during the fall season.
We are currently working with The Factory here in Castle Rock to establish a AAA baseball program that will help us create competitive fall teams and strengthen our presence in AYL AAA baseball next spring. More information on that partnership will be coming within the next week.
While we strongly encourage athletes to participate in other sports during the baseball off-season, we also understand that some players simply enjoy baseball and are looking for additional opportunities to play this fall. For those families, there are several excellent organizations in the area that provide quality fall baseball opportunities.
Below is a summary of four local options, along with our thoughts on each program.
South Jeffco Fall Baseball
Registration: Now Open
Season: September 6 – October 18
Game Days: Sunday Doubleheaders
Ages: 5U–14U
Practice: Once per week in the Littleton/Lakewood area
Cost: $175–$300 per player; $1,500–$2,600 per team
South Jeffco is our top recommendation for fall baseball. They offer coach pitch for 5U–7U, modified kid pitch for 8U, and full baseball beginning at 9U. The league is divided into three competitive levels (D3, D2, and D1), creating more balanced competition across age groups. South Jeffco also offers 60/90 baseball with mounds at the 14U level.

Parker Hawks Fall Baseball
Registration: Opens June 15
Season: July 29 – October 6
Game Days: Friday Evenings and Saturdays
Ages: 5U–14U
Practice: Once per week in the Parker area
Cost: $280–$305 per player; $3,360 per team
Parker Hawks offers a strong fall baseball experience. Coach pitch is available for 5U–6U, with kid pitch beginning at 7U/8U. Parker combines age groups into two-year divisions rather than separating them by age. For example, 9U and 10U play together, as do 11U and 12U. This can make competition particularly challenging for teams on the younger side of an age division.
Another consideration is that teams are not separated by skill level, meaning AA teams will compete against AAA and Major-level teams. Parker also offers a 14U division that plays 60/90 baseball.

Highlands Ranch Competitive Fall Baseball
Registration: Open through July 21
Season: August 16 – October 25
Game Days: Sundays
Ages: 7U–14U
Practice: Once per week in Highlands Ranch
Cost: $2,100–$2,300 per team (individual players may participate through tryouts)
Highlands Ranch provides a quality fall baseball option with modified kid pitch for 7U and 8U and full baseball beginning at 9U. Similar to Parker Hawks, divisions are not separated by skill level. Highlands Ranch does not offer 60/90 baseball but does provide mound pitching at the 14U level. Registration is team-based, though they do conduct player tryouts for individual players.

Castle Rock USSSA Fall Baseball
Registration: Team Registration Only (Now Open)
Season: September 13 – October 18
Game Days: Sundays
Ages: 10U, 12U, 13U, and 14U
Cost: $1,994 per team
Castle Rock offers a quality fall baseball experience for older players. The league is limited to the age groups listed above and does not separate teams by skill level. One consideration is that games are subject to drop-dead time limits, which can occasionally result in shortened games. It features 60/90 baseball and mound pitching at the 14U level. No organized practices are included, and registration must be completed by a full team. Individual player registrations are not available.

We hope this information helps families find the right fall baseball opportunity for their athletes. Thank you for being part of Raptors Baseball this spring, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on the field in the future.
